Qatar Museums

We are proud to announce our collaboration with Qatar Museums on the creation of a public art project by renowned contemporary artist Rirkrit Tiravanija. Installed at the Museum of Islamic Art Park (MIA Park), the installation transforms the space into a place for gathering, participation, and reflection.

For this project, SAKO manufactured and supplied bespoke handcrafted tiles specifically designed for the installation. Inspired by Islamic geometry and the burgundy color of Qatar’s flag, these tiles form the distinctive octagonal structure, grounding the artwork in both local identity and contemporary design.

The project runs from November 7, 2025, to February 6, 2026, and also features weekly community bread-making sessions, inviting bakers and local residents to participate in the universal ritual of bread-making as a symbol of unity and cultural exchange.

By combining craftsmanship with advanced material innovation, SAKO ensures that every element of the installation meets the highest aesthetic and technical standards.

This partnership highlights SAKO’s commitment to creating exceptional, sustainable, and enduring architectural experiences across Qatar.

About the Artist and Design Concept

Rirkrit Tiravanija, born in 1961 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a Thai contemporary artist renowned for redefining the boundaries between art and everyday life.

His work often invites public participation, emphasizing social interaction, hospitality, and shared human experiences. In this project, Tiravanija transforms the Museum of Islamic Art Park (MIA Park) into an interactive pavilion inspired by Islamic geometry and Qatari heritage.

The octagonal structure, built using handcrafted tiles by SAKO, reflects the artist’s belief that art should be experienced rather than simply observed, transforming architecture into a medium for connection, culture, and dialogue.
